Thanks to everyone who helped make this last trip to the U.K. such a blast - particularly Misplaced Music, the Law Court of Christ, Fortune Cookie Music, No Ego Promotions, Roisin Dubh, Albert in Limerick, Interesting Music, My Two Toms, Aaron in Bristol, Let's go Baboon, The Gilded Palace of Sin, Anton at the Rescue Rooms, the Tin Angel, and everybody who came to the shows.
Had a great time with Trampled By Turtles (as always) and Devil's Flying Machine this last Saturday - looking forward to playing with them again.
Look for Mike Nicolai when he's in town again on 10/23 at the Brewhouse - one of the best songwriters around - hopefully we'll find a show on the 22nd that he and I can share.
try not to get hurt.

Busy times around here – I came out of it alright – unemployed and trying to pawn a home-made banjo.
I’m going to head back to the U.K. late in August with Haley Bonar for the release of ‘king earl’ by Misplaced Music. If all goes well, we’ll be back on September 10 just in time for my Sunday show on 9/12 at the Turf Club in St. Paul, then a show with Trampled By Turtles on the 18th (www.trampledbyturtles.com) at Pizza Luce.
This month (August), I’m going to San Francisco for shows at the Café Van Kleef and Hotel Utah – on the way we’ll be back in Butte at the Broadway and then Boise for the True West Film Festival. On the way home, there’s a stop in Lawrence for a show with Grand Champeen and Ol’ Yeller and the North vs South festival.
Some quick thank you’s – Greg and Pieta Brown and Bo Ramsey; thanks for letting me sit in – Reverend DeadEye; I now see the light – My Two Toms; am getting close to wearing out the CD – the spirit of Dock Boggs and Christian McShane – thanks for letting me sit in.
It’s muggy in Duluth today, rare thing, I’m going to open a window.

Thank you to everyone who made the U.K. trip such huge blast – the Black-eyed Snakes, Matt, Ross, Pete & Sinead, Misplaced Music, Imperial Records, Adrian Crowley, Carla Bozulich, My Two Toms, Jamie, everybody who came to the shows, let us sleep on the floor and eat their toast. Hopefully I’ll be returning within the year.
This summer/fall I’m going to try and make my way out to Seattle, Portland, San Fransisco and the like, if you have any venue ideas, drop me a line.
In the fall I’d like to hit the east coast, if anybody out that way has any ideas – I can use them.
‘1922’ is still available at CD Baby – I think they have 8 copies.
The next big show is April 25th at the Green Lantern – 2 shows, actually, one about 5:30 and one about 8. One filled with children’s songs and fun, and one filled with dirty songs and depressing stories.
The next big show after that is May 5th at the Uptown Bar in Mpls – opening for Trampled By Turtles. They’re fantastic – hands down.

02/27/04:
King Earl is finished, in more ways than one, and I believe it’s the best recording I’ve made. The music has a lot to do with regular folks dealing with extraordinary problems; pretty common nowadays, unfortunately, what with the thieves at the wheel.
I’m planning on heading to the UK for the last part of march and the first week of april to tour with the Black-Eyed Snakes and Adrian Crowley, check out the shows page for the current list, or Misplaced Music’s site for details.
There are 3 regular shows to check out lately, if you’re in the Twin Ports area, wednesday’s at the Brewhouse for the Mid-Week Bracer, sunday brunch at Pizza Luce – there’s a different guest each week to break the monotony of me, and we go from around 11 am to around 3, and then the 2nd tuesday of the month at Twin Ports Brewery in Superior with Hookhead & Mare.
That’s about it for now, I’m trying to learn Little Hat Jones’ ‘Kentucky Blues’, arranging a bottleneck version of Skip James’ ‘Sick Bed Blues’, and struggling with some slack-key tunings. Hope you’re well.

02/12/04: Web site redesigned.... new news coming soon!

winter 2003 * England 's Misplaced Music
will be releasing criminals &
sinners in the U.K. beginning
in October. Please check out
their website at
misplacedmusic.co.uk for
further details and some great
music.

summer 2003 *I spent nearly 5 weeks in
Butte , Montana , working on
Travis' Wilkerson's new film. I
played a small role in the film
as well as recording a few
instrumental pieces for the
soundtrack. Travis' other films
include An Injury to One ,
which is well worth looking for;
and includes music by Low
and If Thousands.

spring 2003 *A new recording will be
available after the first of the
year. I don't have a lot of the
details worked out yet,
probably another lo-fi car
wreck, but I think I'm getting to
be a little better at playing the
guitar and deciding what I
want a song to be about
before it's written and recorded
and I start screwing with it at
shows.
